The Smiler (silver)
The Wave Piece (copper)
The Male Stance (brass)

Brief history of my working style; Trained in metalwork, my work has predominantly been outdoor sculpture and installations, placed to interact with the elements. I have always been very interested in the idea of a journey, which has led me towards more wearable and interactive works, focusing on the social, as well as the natural environment. About these exhibits; I am fascinated by the waywe use materials- taking a raw substance from the earth and putting it through various transformations to make what we want or need. Our needs seem to be determined by our social environment in terms of how we should live and behave, and there are unspoken rules in each culture outlining what is acceptable. Through these works, I am exploring the idea of freezing a gesture that would possibly have gone unnoticed, through the use of meticulously handmade jewellery. The pieces refer to the boundaries of social acceptance, physical awareness and freedom of movement. Holding a moment still for an un-naturally long time.

Display of work; There will be 3 photographs A4 or A3, of the pieces being worn to be mounted on the wall. The pieces themselves I would like to have displayed in a pile of earth somehow, and I will let you know how I get on with that, because it may be that I can get the whole thing to you ready to go, secure, earth and all. This will be a reference to the earth, which is the starting place for materials, and will be interesting to see the contrast of the now refined metals next to the earth.
