Sugar
Cube Wall
“ The time based installation piece
is an 8ft x 2ft wall panel constructed of sugar cubes and a weatherproof
mortar. Throughout the duration
of the exhibition a steady stream of water will run through the panel,
slowly dissolving the sugar cubes, leaving a latticework of mortar.
The dissolved solution then flows into a mould placed under the
panel where it re-solidifies, creating more sugar cubes. The piece
deals
with presence and absence. The wall-like structure, being of
such absolute permanence, is dissolved and recreated using the
process of decay
and recreation. The process itself addresses the relationship between
time
and duration. Time is punctuated with a steady flow, turning
it into
duration and making the passing of time physical thing.”
